In John 17, Jesus prays for His disciples. The chapter is pure gold, and from it we can mine out seven powerful prayers to pray for our children, plus a dynamite declaration. I’m using the wording for all of these from The Passion Translation because they are so poignantly expressed, but you can reword according to your translation of preference if you prefer.
1. Protect each one.
John 17:11 – …So I ask that by the power of your name,
protect each one that you have given me…
2. Watch over them so that they will experience perfect unity.
Let them be joined together as one.
John 17:11– watch over them so that they will be united
as one, even as we are one.
John 17: 21– I pray for them all to be joined together as one
even as you and I, Father, are joined together as one.
John 17:23– You live fully in me and now I live fully in them
so that they will experience perfect unity…
3. Let them experience and enter into joyous delight in You.
John 17:13 – …I pray that they will experience
and enter into my joyous delight in you…
4. Guard their hearts from evil.
John 17:15 – …I ask that you guard their hearts from evil.
5. Make them holy by the truth of Your Word.
John 17:17– Your Word is truth! So make them holy by the truth.
6. Let them be with You where You are.
John 17:24– Father, I ask that you allow everyone that you have given to me
to be with me where I am…
7. Let them see Your glory.
John 17:24– …Then they will see my full glory—
the very splendor you have placed upon me…
Plus one dynamite declaration
Declare this: Thank You, Jesus, for continuing to make the Father even more real to my children so they may experience the same love that You have for Jesus. Your love now lives in them!
John 17:26– I have revealed to them who you are[a]
and I will continue to make you even more real to them,
so that they may experience the same endless love
that you have for me,
for your love will now live in them, even as I live in them!
